Rachel is a multidisciplinary artist from The Bahamas currently based in Toronto. After completing her Bachelors in Fine Art at OCAD University, Pyfrom continues to traverse through a variety of media exploring themes of nostalgia, and childhood memories through the lens of a Bahamian. Pyfrom’s works depict gentle moments of cherished memories and recollection, an observation of the things that form the artists’ Bahamian identity. Through imagery that initially feels familiar and arbitrary to most growing up in the Bahamas, Pyfrom communicates a personal reverence for home that elevates local motifs past what they would first appear. Her works serve as a positive, reminiscent representation of the longing for home to come, or the homesickness that had begun to form as Pyfrom left her hometown in pursuance of education. She samples memories and constants in her life, and tenacious island adaptability shown through choice in mediums. Such moments become crystallized within the body of work, functioning as a time capsule of sorts left behind for Toronto.
